Yala combines a strict nature reserve with a national park. Divided into 5 blocks, the park has a protected area of nearly 130,000 hectares of land consisting of light forests, scrubs, grasslands, tanks, and lagoons. Ironically, the park was initially used as a hunting ground for the elite under British rule. Yala is home to 44 varieties of mammals and 215 bird species. Among its more famous residents are the world’s biggest concentration of leopards, majestic elephants, sloth bears, sambars, jackals, spotted deer, peacocks, and crocodiles. The best time to visit Yala is between February and July, when the water levels of the park are quite low, bringing animals into the open.

Kataragama a popular pilgrimage destination frequented by adherents of all religions in Sri Lanka.
The main shrine devoted to Skanda popularly described in eulogies as God having six faces and twelve arms, whose assistance is sought for worldly gain. The history of the shrine dates back to 2 century BC. The annual procession held in July or August is the main event of the shrine with fire walkers and Kawadi dancers. Offering to the got are made at 4.30 am 10.30 am and 6.30 pm daily.

•Stop 1: On the way visit to Rawana waterfall.
This waterfall measures approximately 25 m (82 ft) in height and cascades from an oval-shaped concave rock outcrop. During the local wet season, the waterfall turns into what is said to resemble an Areca flower with withering petals. But this is not the case in the dry season, where the flow of water reduces dramatically. The falls form part of the Ravana Ella Wildlife Sanctuary and is located 6 km (3.7 mi) away from the local railway station at Ella.
•Stop 2: En route visit to Hakgala Botanical Garden.
The Gardens (27ha) were established in 1860 as an experimental Cinchona plantation from which the anti-malarial drug quinine is derived. Subsequently, the gardens were used for experiments in acclimatising temperate-zone plants to life in the tropics. Today Hakgala’s gardens of roses, shrubs, ferns & montane woodland are delightfully located in a salubrious environment, with small streams running across & wooden bridges built over them, with birds flying all over. The charm of the Gardens, cold & shady atmosphere & enchanting sceneries soothes your mind relieving you of your anxieties.
•Stop 3: Nuwaraeliya city.
Nuwaraeliya is set in the heart of tea-country is a beautiful town where the British succeeded in creating a replica of the English countryside, with homes in styles from Georgian to Queen Anne. Well-kept lawns with hedges, an Anglican church, a famous golf course, and beautiful parks give the place an air of nostalgia. Situated 6,200 feet above sea level, the air is cool and fresh – a serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Ramboda Falls is 109 m (358 ft) high and the 11th-highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. It is situated in the Pussellawa area, on the A5 highway at Ramboda Pass. It is formed by PannaOya, which is a tributary of KothmaleOya. The Altitude of the falls is 945 m (3,100 ft) above sea level.
• Stop 3: After Breakfast, visit a Sacred Tooth Relic Temple in Kandy.
The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was built in the 16th century as a place of veneration and protection for Lord Buddha’s sacred tooth. You will have a chance to walk through the beautifully embellished passageways and elaborate halls painted in shades of red, cream and black. Minneriya is a sanctuary for elephants and spreads over 8800 hectares. During the dry season of August to September each year, herds up to 200 elephants are seen within a few square kilometres of the vast Minneriya Reservoir. This Elephant Gathering is a thrilling spectacle that will be remembered for the rest of the lives of all those who were fortunate enough to witness it. 24 species of mammals and over 170 species of birds have been recorded here, and of, the 25 species of reptiles recorded in the park 8 are endemic.

When we proceeded to that place, one person detailed our Sigiriya village tour program nicely & he told us that the tour will take approximately 02 hours. It included a catamaran ride, a walk to a poor village house through paddy fields, a cookery demonstration of Sri Lankan Authentic food and a tuk-tuk ride from the village to the starting point.

Aukana Buddha Statue in Sri Lanka which rises to a height of 11.36 meters, is the tallest ancient Buddha statue in Sri Lanka.
Aukana Buddha Statue in Asisa Mudra or the “posture of blessing” is carved out of a rock boulder. The statue is carved in the round connected to the back to the rock boulder. The delicate and skilful carving of the Buddha’s robe humanises and chastely reveals the underlying form of his body, while the face’s impassive expression projects an aura of spiritual supremacy.
It is said that the degree of alignment of the statue is such that a raindrop on the nose would drop straight down to the small depression carved between the toes. Aukana Buddha Statue is a masterpiece of a colossal Buddha Statue by an unknown sculptor: the serene expression of the statue, the gracefully carved robe with neat pleats, brings in delicateness that could hardly be moulded into a rock. The impassive expression of the face reflects the supreme spirituality.

Located 30km west of Anuradhapura, and to the south of Wilpattu National Park is River Modergamaru; to the north is River Kala Oya. A unique complex of over 50 wetlands like “Everglades” is the most prominent feature of the national park jungle. Jeep Safari is the norm in exploring the Wilpattu National Park. The Anawilundawa Bird Sanctuary is situated in the Puttalam district in the North-Western province of the country, between
Chilaw and Puttlam – to be more specific – it is situated between the coast and the Chilaw-Puttalam railway line. The uniqueness of Anawilundawa is its immediate proximity to three vastly different ecosystems: the coast, the mangroves, and the freshwater tanks, making it one of the six RAMSAR Wetlands in Sri Lanka. This unique ecological setting has made it a favourable nesting and breeding ground for hundreds of species of birds.
It is set out on 1,397 hectares of forest land and comprises nine tanks: six giant manmade cascading tanks, namely Pinkattiya, Maradansola, Anawilundawa, Mayyawa, Surawila and Vellawali, and three secondary tanks, each one connected with the other and working as one unit. These tanks store water for irrigation and cultivation and act as a natural habitat and refuge for 150 species of water birds in addition to a few species of threatened Fish, Amphibians, Mammals, and Reptiles.
